Painting Trek: Revealing Summer
Painting Journey: Masking-in Summer Views
Painting Quest: Borders of Summer See descriptions below. Request a registration form at clarkbb@msu.edu.
Workshop Overview Enjoy a two-day experience of painting outside in natural light. June, July and August workshops will originate at the Brenda J. Clark Gallery overlooking the Suttons Bay harbor. The painting groups will paint on-location (outside). Locations will be announced. Acrylic paint will be used. It is water based and offers transparency and an opaque quality, while allowing for layering of brilliant color during composition. Students and the artist will investigate color observation of ordinary structures within sight, and translate these into markmaking. The days will offer discussion, experimental exercises, and the composing of full paintings.
The class will take place from 9:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m. each day.
All levels of artistic skill and understanding are welcome. Invite a friend and venture up to Leelanau County for a great painting excurtion! Group size 5 - 7 participants per workshop. See last summer's workshop at June Trek Workshop 2012. To reserve a date and sign up, please send an email to clarkbb@msu.edu, or call the gallery at 231.492.2196. Registration forms will be sent per request.
Painting Trek: Revealing Summer
Acrylic painting workshop with focus of works on paper. Participants will investigate color use and paint aplication. Studies and full paintings will be developed while painting outside (on-location) near the Suttons Bay Harbor. Observation of land masses, water, and structures within sight will influence and be translated into meaningful markmaking.
Four painting sessions total, with two per day. Box lunches provided.
Painting Journey: Masking-in Summer Views
Acrylic painting workshop with focus of masking in works on paper. Participants will investigate abstraction and dimension. Masking tape on 300 lb. arches paper will be used while working large and small. Participants will explore: developing a painting within a painting, working in layers, choosing areas to mask in, and continuing to build up color and impasto to finish a painting. The element of surprise, while exploring dimension and abstraction by masking-in, often allows a painter to venture conceptually into new territory. Studies and full paintings will be developed while painting outside (on-location) near the Suttons Bay Harbor.
Four painting sessions total, with two per day. Box lunches provided.
Painting Quest: Borders of Summer Acrylic painting workshop with focus of utilizing loose, symbolic and masked borders for each painting on paper. Participants will investigate what the edge of the painting is conveying more closely and how it creates transition for the viewer. Studies and full paintings will be developed while painting outside (on-location) near the Suttons Bay Harbor.
Four painting sessions total, with two per day. Box lunches provided.
